Sawmill Services
At Montgomery Sawmill, we provide a variety of sawmill services to fit the many needs of our clients. Our sawmill services can be used in projects including a custom table, chair, desk or counter top, flooring, dimensional lumber and so much more. We will work with you throughout the entire process to ensure the end product is a good fit for your needs and is a high quality product that will last for generations.
Custom Wood Cutting
At Montgomery Sawmill, we take whole trees or logs and saw them into lumber with the dimensions that you decide is right for your project or needs on our Wood-Mizer LT70 Super sawmill. When you provide a log or logs of your own, you may be able to obtain high quality lumber for a price far below what you might pay if you were to purchase it retail as we charge a flat per-hour rate for sawmill time, and can process up to several hundred board feet per hour.
Log Repurposing & Recycling
Do you have a tree or trees that needs to come down, has been taken down by yourself or a tree service, or has fallen on it's own in a storm but don't need lumber? Montgomery Sawmill accepts whole logs of most species found in Minnesota! Drop offs must be pre-approved, so give us a call before cutting or stopping by. We also will purchase select logs, so if you have a particularly nice tree, are clearing land for a house or other purpose, or are even looking to have an entire area logged give us a call and talk to us about how to turn those trees into money in your pocket.
Log Transportation
Not sure how to go about getting that log from your property to ours? Give us a call and we can come to you! We have the ability to self load and transport logs up to 20' long and up to 10,000 lbs. Pickup available anywhere in Minnesota, and transportation is charged by the mile.
Kiln Drying
Air drying wood is a slow, tedious process and as green wood air dries it can lead to defects in the wood, resulting in splitting, twisting, warping and allowing insect damage. Air drying is a slow process with the general rule of drying being that one year per inch of thickness is required. Kiln drying, however, allows control over the drying process to help minimize those defects and exponentially decrease drying time. At Montgomery Sawmill, we utilize an iDry Plus vacuum kiln which can take 1” thick lumber down to 6-8% moisture content in as little as a week! Drying is charged by board foot.
Resaw Service & Planing
Have you ever found yourself with lumber leftover from a project or renovation, or disassembled a deck, shed or barn but aren't sure what can be done with the materials? Montgomery Sawmill has the ability to breathe new life into old wood! By utilizing any combination of sawmill, resaw and planer we can recut and resurface old boards to clean them up and in some cases to look like new. Give us a call and see what we can do to help recycle your wood into a new project.
A planer is a machine that takes an even cut of wood from the flat surface of a board, giving rough cut or weathered lumber a smooth and even finish ready for sanding or even left as-is. We can plane boards and beams up to 25” wide and 9” thick.
